For the 2023 edition, we made 300 pens, which are available for immediate delivery. The pens are CNC milled from solid rods of grade-5 titanium. They are equipped with signed nibs in polished stainless steel. This time, we are offering fine, medium, and flexible nibs. Our flexible nib offers a line variation from extra fine to broad.

This week, we released our PIUMA pocket pen in Ultem. This pen has the same specifications as the ebonite pen but we are using this amazing new material. Ultem is an engineered plastic also known as Polyetherimide (PEI). It is an amorphous plastic that offers high strength, excellent chemical resistance with a high service temperature. It has a distinct amber-to-transparent color. It is commonly used in autoclave applications, high voltage circuit breaker components, and jet engine components. In the fountain pen world, it is used because of its attractive amber color and excellent mechanical properties. It is stronger than acrylic and other resins and excellent for precision machining.

We are really happy with the pens and would like to thank you for your support. It has been a challenging project because acquiring the Japanese ebonite requires several months and delays are common because it is an artisanal material. It is truly a lovely material, perfect for pens- its lightness and warm feeling is something exceptional that we have not experienced with any other material. Unfortunately, the production of quality ebonite is so limited and costly that we are unsure if we are making more ebonite pens in the future. We made a few extra pens, which are now available on our website.

We wanted to give you an update on the shipping progress. So far, we have shipped 60% of the pens. Next week, we will continue shipping pens until Wednesday, November 23rd. We will resume shipping after Thanksgiving during the week of November 28th. As soon as your package ships, you will receive an email from Backerkit with your tracking number.
